Growing up with relatives in the media world, I was inspired by their stories about leadership and social change. This exposure sparked my interest in media and communications. After completing my English classes at Georgian College, I began the Business Marketing program (Co-op). I am currently serving as the Operations Manager for Agema Hospitality.
I am currently serving as the Operations Manager for Agema Hospitality.
In 2016/17, I became very passionate about Social Innovation ideas and created the first ever Social Innovation and Cultural Exchange project for Georgian College - Barrie/ON.
I implemented the project with one Canadian team member and together we worked in 4 countries in 12 weeks in 25 cities in East Asia. I also traveled solo to South America to continue the next portion of the project as well. (www.gceastasia.com) This project led us to develop the #GoAbroadSquad an experiential education ecosystem that focuses on internationalizing student’s mindsets & skills for the Georgian college community.
Additionally, I have been recognized and contributed to the Georgian College, Barrie community. and the County of Simcoe.

If you’ve ever met Paulo Cardoso, it would be easy to justify voting for him as VP Student Engagement and Communication. Since the day that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Paulo, I’ve continued to witness his incredible leadership, commitment to fighting for student rights and creating a genuinely inclusive environment for all students. Whether you know him as a student leader, a fellow classmate or just in passing, he is always sure to stop, say hello and ask how you are doing. Despite making a quick stroll down the hall a timely and sometimes challenging task, Paulo is always open to listening and fulfilling the needs of his giant extended family. Paulo is among the most hardworking and professional individuals I know and has surpassed all expectations in order to do what is right and in the best interest of the students. He truly deserves this position and would continue to excel at making Georgian College your home away from home

Thank you Paulo for involving me in your events and look forward to working with you in the future.

Georgian College
Paulo joined Georgian College in 2016 as an international student and instantly made an impression on the international team and his instructors. His enthusiasm for learning and his genuinely creative style in supporting his fellow students and his program area was immediately apparent. I can recall the moment that I met Paulo and how impressed I was with his outgoing, innovative and positive attitude that I said to my colleague that we should encourage him to apply for our student ambassador team. He applied and obtained the position with ease. Since that time Paulo has been actively involved in our team efforts to support and improve international student services.
Paulo was instrumental in the creation, the planning and the implementation of the International Department Social Innovation and Cultural Exchange project. The project was created to support the Georgian College Strategic Plan priorities of Internationalization and Social Innovation and took place over four months in various cities in East Asia. Paulo represented Georgian College as an international student, visiting the region and describing Georgian’s student experience. Upon his return he has been involved in the development of a program called the GoAbroadSquad; a group of student leaders who share their overseas experiences to aid in the pre-departure and reentry support of students.
Furthermore, through his participation in this program, Paulo provides an increased awareness regarding opportunities for Georgian College students to study abroad. Paulo not only support students who want to apply to take a co-op or study abroad but he encourages students to think more creatively about their experiences and improve opportunities within their college and their community.
Furthermore, Paulo regularly volunteers for Barrie and community events such as Hockey helps the Homeless and the annual Santa Breakfast. Within his student leadership position as Vice President Student Engagement and Communications Paulo works hard with his team to support all student needs within the college and Barrie community. He is an advocator, a friend and a supportive advisor who has helped the copious amount of students succeed in their personal and academic endeavors. His successful integration and contribution to the Barrie community and into Georgian College allow him to be a role model to many.

Kevin Weaver
Vice President, International, Workforce Development and Parternships Georgian College
My name is Kevin Weaver and I am the Vice President, International, Workforce Development and Partnerships at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario, Canada. In my capacity as Vice President, I have worked with and observed the efforts of Paulo both as an international student and as a student leader with the Georgian College Student Association (GCSA). He is, and continue to be, a champion for internationalization and social innovation.
Paulo was instrumental in the development of the Social Innovation & Cultural Exchange Project, wich was almost a year in development. Paulo traveled to East Asia and Brazil to engage in the culture, promote Georgian College and to assist international students interested in coming to Canada for education. The trip, including the knowledge sharing portion upon his return to Canada, was a for months process. This was phase one of a very innovative project that, without the support of Paulo, would not have happened.
Paulo is currently working on phase two of the project under an initiative called the #GoAbroadSquad/ The main purpose is to create increased awareness about the cultural differences to support student that would like to understand and become a changemaker in our campus and community. The #GoAbroadSquad also supports students that want to work as a co-op student or study abroad.
I strongly believe that Paulo has been a tremendous champion for international students. He has also assisted Georgian College in better embracing internationalization. He continues to work tirelessly for students who have creative and initiatives that would improve our college and community.

Georgian College
I’ve the opportunity to work with Paulo throughout his time at Georgian College.
In early 2017, Paulo in connection with the Georgian College Student Association developed a framework for an innovative global co-op opportunity to align with the college strategic commitments to experiential learning and internationalization.
The Social Innovation & Cultural Exchange project was supported by senior leaders and in summer 2017 Paulo, and another student spent their co-op work term piloting the project in East Asia, marketing Georgian College and developing partnerships for Georgian students. The project was very successful and resulted in connections for future academic and co-op partnership.
The project was the catalyst for the launch of Georgian’s #GoAbroadSquad, where Paulo, and other students, engage Georgian students in understanding the benefit of work and study abroad opportunities, cultural awareness, and pre and post-departure supports. This initiative is aligned with the college AshokaU designation and commitment to the expansion of international experiential learning opportunities.
Paulo has demonstrated a commitment to student leadership and opportunity development for Georgian College students. He acts as a champion for co-op, international engagement and college services. He consistently demonstrates strong leadership skills, a commitment to student and a positive energy that is truly contagious.
